Bill carlson

Bill Carlson, guitar, started playing guitar in 1987 (in the time of hairspray and spandex) and actually took lessons at Nice Music as a beginner. He took lessons from Joe Bennett, brother to fellow Nice Music piano teacher Tom Bennett. He first studied rock guitar but soon moved to classical guitar. Bill studied with Joe for two years and then moved his studies to James Chandler of F.C.C.J. James continued Bill on the classical track working him through pieces by Sor, Carcassi, Bach and Villa-Lobos. James also began preparing him on how to instruct students. MORE>>>>

After graduating from high school in 1990, Bill began teaching at Nice Music and Suzuki Talent Education (now known as Wehner’s School for the Arts).  He taught for several years at both studios but in 1993, he put all his efforts into his studio at Nice Music. He named his studio “Avant Guitar Studio”. A play on the word Avant Garde, which means cutting edge. Even though Bill is classically trained he also studied other styles from rock, jazz and blues. He has been teaching theses styles at Nice Music for close to 18 years. Over the years, he has toured the country several times, he even tried touring Canada but was refused entry at the US/Canadian border, but that is another story. He has played at the Warped Tour in Jacksonville and numerous other festivals.

In addition to teaching full time at Nice Music; Bill leads the praise band at Orange Park United Methodist Church and has recently returned to school to pursue a degree in Computer Science. He plans to graduate from the University of North Florida in 2010.
